Elf Name Generator is a free fantasy naming tool for tabletop players, writers, game masters, roleplayers, and anyone building a fictional character or world.

The generator creates original name ideas from curated fantasy syllable patterns, tone settings, and optional meaning prompts. It is designed for brainstorming and entertainment rather than historical, linguistic, or cultural authority.

How the names are intended to be used

Use the results as starting points for characters, NPCs, story drafts, usernames, house names, and quick campaign notes. You can copy a result as-is or adjust the sound until it fits your own setting.

References to DND, Pathfinder, KOTLC, dark elf, mature fantasy, and related terms describe broad fictional styles or fan-use contexts. This site is independent and is not affiliated with those publishers or properties.

Editorial approach

The site is maintained as an independent project. The owner writes and reviews the fixed examples, naming guides, legal pages, and generator settings, and can be reached at qishiyexu@gmail.com.

Before an example is published, we read it aloud, check whether it is too close to a familiar franchise character, and ask whether the note gives a writer or player a concrete way to use it. Generated meanings are mood prompts, not translations from Tolkien's languages or another constructed language.

We revise pages when a description is unclear, a name is too close to a published character, or a reader reports a rights or accuracy concern. Each guide shows its review date.

How the generator works

The generator combines curated sound fragments, style settings, and a deterministic browser-side seed. The real-name field changes that seed so the same input can produce a repeatable result; it does not infer ancestry, identity, or personality.

Some optional sourced results include a link to the reference used. Original generated names can still resemble an existing name by chance, so anyone publishing a major character should run a separate trademark and character search.

Elf Name Generator is not sponsored by or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, Paizo, Shannon Messenger, Tolkien's estate, or another fantasy publisher.

To request a correction, send the page URL, the text or name at issue, and enough context for us to check it. We review specific reports rather than silently treating generated output as authoritative.
